89km , One Way, Easy/Medium, Some Hills, Sealed/Unsealed Rail Trail

The South Burnett Rail Trail (Kilkivan to Kilkivan Rail Trail) follows the route of the Nanango narrow gauge railway line.

It is a pleasant ride through undulating cattle country. The section from Murgon to Kingaroy is sealed. The other section is gravel and a bit rough in sections.

The line was opened to Kilkivan in 1886 after the discovery of gold and copper in the region. The final section to Nanango was added in 1911. The arrival of the train created many of the towns along the route.

The line was closed between Kingaroy and Nanango in 1964 and the remainder of the line had very limited use until its closure in 2011.

There is a 52 km quiet road route linking the KKRT with the BVRT at Yarraman. See Queensland -Rail Trails and Paths.

Start: Kilkivan or Kingaroy     Transport: Car. Shuttle Bus. Out There Cycling run a shuttle bus service for cyclists and bikes. Pick up can be from Wulkuraka Station (Start of BVRT) Ph: +61 466 306 371 https://www.outtherecycling.com.au

Thank you to Stu and Deb for riding the trail and taking photos.
