Barrington Tops Cycling
325 km one way, Mountainous, Sealed and unsealed quiet roads.
Ride across the Barrington Tops and enjoy the amazing views and forests of this World Heritage listed Gondwana rainforests ofthis alpine area. The plateau that you ride over sits at just over 1500 m, so it can snow or be very cold in the winter months. Lookout for an abundance of wildlife, especially when you stop to camp.
The ride has some challenging climbs which are rewarded by great views and a cycle through the lovely highland area of the Tops. Although the route follows the main all weather road there are many opportunities to explore the adjoining high grounds if time and energy permit. There are also alternate mainly gravel routes from the main sealed road between Cobark River and Gloucester, which have also become popular as a loop rides.
Then enjoy the rolling hills of the upper Hunter and Myall River Valleys plus the personalities of the locals. The traditional owners of the high rainforest lands include the Worimi, Biripi and Wonnarua aboriginal peoples.
