Great Ocean Walk
Great Ocean Walk
One Way, 97 km , Flat/Hilly, 6-8 Days.
The Great Ocean Walk is a great way to see and experience the beauty and wildness of the South West Victorian Coastline.
There are many places where a view of the rugged coast, cliffs and sandy beaches can be admired.
The path is well graded takes in sandy beaches, ridge walks, Native Grass forests and eucalypt forests.
The coast is known as the Shipwreck Coast with good reason. The unfortunate fate of many ships in the 1800s is told along the trail.
The trail is ONE WAY only (Westbound- Apollo Bay to 12 Apostles) to minimise the spread of harmful organisms such as Phytophthora.
There are campsites for Great Ocean Walkers (GOW) well spaced along the trail.
A taxi service can drop you to select start and stop points along the trail if you do not want to camp or hike only of part of the trail. Ph: +61 438 407 777 https://www.ridewithus.com.au
The hike can be done all year around. Best times Spring, early Summer and Autumn. Avoid very hot summer days due to bushfire risk, snakes and possible shortage of water as tanks are only filled by rainwater.
